Mural Wallcovering Designs: Spring Tonic, Japanese Quince and Spring Tonic Moonlight
About
Mural wallcoverings are panelled designs, printed digitally in order to create 3 different panels on one roll - that look like a dramatic mural or big picture when hung together. Think of them as a fine art print that comes on the convenience of a roll.

Mural wallcoverings create interest and drama that bring a unique sense of style to any room. It's a great way to achieve the feel of an expensive hand-painted mural for less time and investment. These mural wallcoverings are often described as incredibly 'painterly' and have been painstakingly developed to the finest detail and are all originally hand-painted by Georgette Sunderland.
It takes many months to paint the original artwork. Due to the extensive size of the final mural (210cm across x 335cm tall) the artwork must be painted at 50% in order to fit under an industrial rolling scanner (there are only a few in the UK). Therefore, knowing that the end design will be magnified when printed, details are painstakingly painted, with very fine brushes, small sections at a time. George often paints using a magnifier.
All Beautiful by George murals are painted by hand by George. Nothing is computer generated. George spends a long time planning the rhythm of the mural, the natural individual pace of the design and researches her features in great detail. It is important that the design flows but looks natural. It's quite the challenge to design panels that look like one large, hand-painted, continuous mural on only one roll of paper! It takes many hours in the design painting processes to ensure that every panel meets and joins perfectly and that the customer can seamlessly link many murals along a stretch of wall.
Prior to painting George researches her wallcoverings for many months. 'Japanese Quince' involved many research trips, including one to the archive library in Japan House in London. Here George was privileged to look through ancient books on kimono patterns, Japanese plants and Japanese gardening books. George spent many weeks research the symbology behind several elements of her latest Japonaiserie design.
Biophilic-inspired wallcoverings
What is Biophilic Design? My understanding is this - it is bringing the outside in, through incorporating plants and interior design treatments with light, colour, texture and patterns - to achieve an overall experience of wellness within the home. It is a design practise that taps into our very core of feeling happy and safe. It goes further than design and includes sustainability and awareness. It about being held accountable to your sustainability practices as a designer. (Please read my page on sustainability). It also features safety, designing for a healthy home using materials that are safe to be around at home.
In essence, design that is good for you and your family.
Like Spring Tonic, Ponderlings and Mossy Verdure are Biophilic-inspired wallcoverings. Not just a pretty face! They are designed to look like attractive wallcoverings on initial glance but they serve a deeper purpose and deeper connection to nature and your wellbeing within your home. The colours and fractal patterns that have been incorporated create feelings of calm and rejuvenation. Much research has been done on this subject and when incorporating live plants into your scheme is not possible this is the next best alternative.
